Insurance Inspections
Insurance companies may require a Four-Point Inspection, a Wind Mitigation Inspection, or both when it is time to renew your coverage, or when you are switching to a new insurance company. Here is a summary of what these inspections involve.
Wind Mitigation Inspection
Wind mitigation on your home is the features you have that help lessen, or prevent, wind damage from severe storms and hurricanes. These features deal with the:
Roof -
Type of roofing covering material (Shingles, Metal, Tile) and if there is a Secondary Water Resistance (SWR) membrane applied to the decking.
The shape of the roof and how the roof is secured to the house,
Windows & Doors
If your windows and doors are impact rated
The type of hurricane shutters you have to protect the windows and doors.
Not only do these features help keep your home safe when its needed the most, they allow your insurance company to offer certain credits on your home insurance which saves you money.
These inspections need to be renewed every 5 years. Also, if you have recently upgraded the wind mitigation to your home, a new report will be needed to give to your insurance company.

Four-Point Inspection
A Four-Point Inspection covers the four major systems of the home (Roof, Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC). These inspections are not as detailed as a full home inspection, even though they cover similar subjects. The inspection helps to show if a home has been well maintained or if there are major issues that need to be remedied.
Insurance companies may require a Four-Point Inspection and if problems are found they will need to be fixed before you can obtain insurance.
